The Beatles

Nirvana

Formed in Washington state in 1987, Nirvana’s classic line-up consisted of Kurt Cobain (vocals and guitar), Krist Novoselic (bass), and Dave Grohl (drums). They became one of the most influential rock bands in the 1990s.

Nirvana’s debut album Bleach was released on June 15th 1989. It was a commercial success for an independent release, but received mixed reviews. After signing to major label DGC Records, Nirvana found unexpected success with their second album Nevermind, which debuted at number one on the Billboard charts with sales of over five million copies in the US alone.

Nirvana’s sudden fame put pressure on frontman Kurt Cobain who had developed a drug addiction by this point. His marriage to Courtney Love also began to breakdown at this time due to his infidelity and abuse towards her.

Their final album In Utero, released in 1993 just prior to Cobain’s death, featured an intentionally abrasive sound designed to capture the discomfort felt by artists under upon achieving sudden fame.

Radiohead

Radiohead is a British band from the 90’s. They have been around for over 20 years and have been one of the most popular alternative rock bands in music history. Radiohead has six studio albums, all released after their debut album “Pablo Honey” in 1993. In 1995, they released “The Bends”, which features hits like “Just” and “Street Spirit (Fade Out)”.

Radiohead has won many awards including two Brit Awards, five MTV Video Music Awards, seven Grammy Awards, four MTV Europe Music Awards, and three American Music Awards. They are often praised for their experimental style of music, as well as Thom Yorke’s vocal ability.

Led Zeppelin

Red Hot Chili Peppers

In the late 1980s, three friends decided they wanted to start a band. They were Anthony Kiedis, Flea, and Hillel Slovak. These three friends would go on to create one of the best bands in history: the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Their first album was released in 1984 and was called ‘The Red Hot Chili Peppers.’ The name of the album came from a dream that Anthony had about Jack Kerouac’s The Dharma Bums.

Queen

Queen is a band that was originally formed in the U.K but has had an international presence. They are known for their powerful vocals, guitar work, and their operatic style of singing which is often called “the Queen sound.” The band’s songs (often penned by lead singer Freddie Mercury) explore themes like isolation, rebellion, love, sex, death, and other social issues. Queen is one of the most successful bands in history because they have sold over 150 million records to date.

The Rolling Stones

The Rolling Stones are an English rock band that has been around for 50 years. They released their first album in 1964 and have been making music ever since. The Rolling Stones are known for their songs Brown Sugar, Angie, and Start Me Up.

The Rolling Stones have a long history of being one of the best bands of all time. They have a total of 18 studio albums to date and are still going strong and plan to release a new album this year!
